When Daniel Sempere is a boy, his father brings him to a magical place called The Cemetery of Forgotten Books.  There, he is told he can choose just one book from the cavernous stacks and take it with him.  He soon becomes fascinated with the novel he's picked, The Shadow of the Wind.  When he sets out to track down other works by its mysterious author, Julián Carax, he discovers that someone else is also seeking Carax's books, but with a much more sinister aim.  Set in 1940s Barcelona, this novel blends history, mystery, and fantasy to create a suspenseful and enchanting tale.

Quote:
"Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul.  The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it.  Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens."
